Not that we are the best and only program that works with young boys [although I believe we are ONE of the best], nor that we are the ‘end-all’ when it comes to programming things for boys . . . I get the privilege and joy to see so many boys enter our organization and then become transformed right before my eyes, as they learn how to sing better, experience touching hundreds of people’s lives at their concerts and have life changing experiences as they attend our camps and tours.
Having just recently returned from our week long summer camp,’ Zengit Gutenproper’, I was acutely aware of at least five boys who have had and made a dramatic change in their decorum and behavior with the other boys . . . and especially in themselves! They have matured and were acting and recognized as leaders, something that had not happened to this point.
Boys that were too large or too loud or too clumsy or too insecure to be treated like all the other ‘normal’ boys. Boys that were ostracized by the other boys, by just being themselves.
How wonderful and profound to see them now being accepted and even sought out to play our many games by the other boys. Not the first to be picked perhaps . . . but certainly not the last any more!
And, how especially gratifying to have received letters and emails from not only them, but their parents as well . . . aware of this transformation and acknowledgement of how being in the Fort Bend Boys Choir has literally made a difference in their lives forever.
Making a difference . . . one boy at a time is what we have sought out to do from the very beginning. It’s awesome to see that even after these 34 years, we are still doing just that!
